Faithful Living: Men, its time to step up! - The Daily Telegram

As I lay in bed with the flu on New Year’s Day, thoughts of what is and what could be raced through my mind. How can this year and this decade be different? How can our lives impact in a greater way those around us? How can we continue to pursue the Lord and further mature in our faith?

I just read a text from Russ Hiatt who is one of the brothers in our Friday morning “War Room” group. He wants the men in our group to pray and reach out to other men. He basically said it’s time for men to wake up and walk with the Lord; for men to step up and lead.

Our weekly gatherings are like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get inside.

When the Holy Spirit is present anything can happen. All of us continue to be amazed how our time is swallowed up in the Lord. The vulnerability and trust that exists continues to get broader and deeper. When new brothers show up, it does not take long for them to pick up the genuineness and affection that is palpable from everyone. We long for more men to experience what we receive from each other and the Lord on a weekly basis.

It’s simple: We check in and pray.

I certainly do not want to diminish the role that women play in our lives. They are so important to our existence that it is hard to describe. Without them, the male gender would struggle greatly and, in essence, we would be utterly lost. Most women I know are well organized and have the keen ability to get things done. They are planners and can multitask. They are intuitive and compassionate. They are indispensable!

Although everyone at some point in time will give an account for their actions during their earthly life, the Biblical responsibilities between men and women are different and unique. How will men respond to God about how they have led or not led in everything; from their homes, at their workplaces, in the church … to you name it?

Yes, one day, we will have to give an account for everything that we have done in this life, the good, the bad and the indifferent. We will not get to hide anywhere, guys, and escape this reality. Speaking for myself, this truth is a bit unsettling.

Men need men. Having accountability partners is necessary. “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 21:17, NKJV). Why did the Lord send the Disciples out two-by-two? Because He knew they would need each other for encouragement, strength and support. Fighting battles alone is not necessary. Joining forces with other men is crucial for strategy and success. The chords of a rope are not easily broken.

I hope this year will be different, men! Hook up with some guys who have your back and who are able to help you dig below the surface to be a better man. The War Room does that for me.

God continues to search the world over for men who are bold, genuine and faith-filled to be warriors in the battle for souls. He wants you to help in this courageous fight! Will you?

We have been praying for men to connect one with another. This was one of the main thrusts when we started the War Room back on April 28, 2017. If you are interested in learning more about this important huddle, please reach out to me.

The battle lines are drawn. We know the enemy. Are you in?
