Sun City magazine shares article submission guidelines - Bluffton Today

As a community of people with varied backgrounds, interests and talents, Sun City is filled with interesting stories, and SunSations magazine is an ideal place to share them. The Community Association welcomes article ideas that follow the publication’s submission guidelines.

“SunSations is a magazine created for residents that includes content written by residents about their neighbors. Sharing stories through SunSations helps to foster a sense of community, giving them a better understanding of their friends and neighbors,” director of communication Jennifer Mathis said.

Residents are asked to first send story ideas to the Communication Department for pre-approval and to request space in the magazine. Ideas can be sent to sunsations@schhca.com.

Production on each magazine begins months, and sometimes even a year, in advance. Those with article suggestions, especially articles that are time sensitive, are asked to pitch their idea several months prior to when they wish the article to be published. Clubs and groups that would like an article previewing a special event are encouraged to give staff six months’ notice to ensure inclusion in the magazine.

SunSations focuses on Sun City’s active adult lifestyle, with articles that highlight residents’ lives and experiences. Some article ideas that may be a good fit for SunSations include profiles about residents with unique hobbies, interesting career backgrounds, athletic accomplishments or inspirational stories, to name a few. SunSations does not publish personal essays, fiction, poetry or memorials.

Clubs, groups and neighborhoods often take advantage of SunSations’ wide readership to share information about upcoming events or news about special projects that have affected the community as a whole. All events promoted in the magazine must be open to all Sun City residents, hosted inside the community and organized by a club, group, neighborhood or board appointed committee.

Article ideas that meet the aforementioned guidelines and are accepted by the Communication Department will be shared with the magazine’s team of volunteer resident writers. If a writer agrees to take on the article, they will contact the person who pitched the article to arrange interviews and gather other information.

Aside from articles, the Slice of Life section of the magazine is an ideal place to publish photos of resident events or activities in and around Sun City. For inclusion, photos must be size 1 MB or larger, sent to sunsations@schhca.com with the photographer’s name and a description of the photo.

As the community’s go-to resource for all things Sun City, residents are encouraged to get involved in the magazine by sending their article ideas and photos.
