Sign-ups open for Master Gardener class - Lifestyle - Oak Ridger

If you are one of those people who like to garden and landscape you know there is always something to be done even if it is nothing more than just looking at it and trying to decide what you will do next year when the weather warms up.

If you want to sharpen your gardening skills, learn from some exceptionally skilled individuals, and be even more prepared about your garden, landscape and plants around your home, the Master Gardener class can help.

This year’s class will include 12 sessions about gardening and will include topics like soils, pesticides, insects and weed control, diseases, lawns, backyard wildlife, herbaceous and woody plants and many others.

Classes are two nights a week (Monday and Thursday from 6-9 p.m.) from mid-February until late March. The class cost is $100 per individual or $150 per couple wanting to share a book. This includes class materials, 12 presentations by experts in the field on specific topics, and membership in the Maury County Master Gardeners Association for a year. The class is limited to the first 35 paid participants.

The Master Gardener program is offered through the University of Tennessee Extension program and is open to anyone regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion or veteran status. Throughout the year we have many people call in to get information about the Master Gardener program and it is time to start sending letters, confirming participation, and taking reservations for the class.

Registration and payment are due Feb. 11.
