According to Nikki Mendez of Anytime Fitness, its best to start out slow and build to a lasting lifestyle. She feels so many get burned out because they try to change everything all at once. Mendez suggests starting out by going to the gym three days a week.

Fitness is a lifestyle change says Mendez. She adds you didn’t gain that weight in a month and you aren’t going to lose it in a month. Mendez details that if you think you are going to stick with it for three months and then return to your other habits it isn’t going to work like that.

She suggests you also find a friend or someone you can trust to go to the gym with and always ask questions if you need help. Mendez, who helps run Anytime Fitness with her fiancé, detailed they have three personal trainers and are adding two who will always be more than happy to show you how to use the machines. She mentioned that some get intimidated by those at the gym including the bodybuilders, but you shouldn’t because typically those are the first who are willing to help.

Mendez detailed that you should start out by sticking to the basics if you want to look for supplements. She suggests grabbing a protein shake every day and if you feel tired, try a half scoop of pre-workout.

But above all else, Mendez believes you just have to stick to it even if you don’t see physical results right away.

“When people start sometimes they say ‘hey, I was so tired everyday but now that I have started I’m not seeing a change yet with my body but I feel happier and feel more energized.’”

Mendez also said there is a misconception that women need to lose the weight then lift, but lifting weights actually burns more calories. She details you should find a happy medium between lifting and cardio.

Anytime Fitness and many of the other gyms are running membership specials for the first month of the new year to help make things easier for you to get started.
